About Clinics

In 1972 April the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act became effective. Abortion in India became legal with the sole view of capping back street abortions. Unfortunately the message did not trickle down resulting in serious health consequences and often resulting in death. We established our first Parivar Seva clinic in 1979 in West Delhi and provided legal and safe abortion services, backed by a strong mass media campaign. Parivar Seva became synonymous with safe abortions and 14% of the reported abortions in the country is being provided by our clinics spread all over India. Under Social Marketing of Clinics, the organization has 36 Parivar Seva Clinics, located in 36 districts across 11 States which deliver quality and affordable RH services with emphasis on family planning (both terminal and spacing methods), safe abortion services and management of sexually transmitted infections. They are well known for their demand creation activities, client orientation, community penetration, trained multi skilled teams, counseling skills, medically sound protocols and practices and a strong network with public and private sector service providers such as allopathic and Ayush medical practitioners, chemists, ANMs, ASHAs, Anganwadis and NGO workers as referrals to the clinics and effective sale points for our branded contraceptives and products. These referrals numbering about 8000 receive periodic updates from the Sanstha on family planning methods and RTI/ STIs including HIV/ AIDS.

In addition, its innovative Purush clinic has helped to reach men with STIs and with well family planning. HIV/ AIDS testing and referrals is an important component. Its marketing strategy is also unique. Clinical services are provided to over two lakhs clients annually through these clinics, besides reaching lakhs of women and men with health and particularly RH behaviour change communication. Fractional franchising with private practitioner for family planning services branded as Blue Star Centers has been a highly successful concept.
